Pending (from the English pending — "awaiting", "in processing") is the status of a transaction that has already been initiated but has not yet received final confirmation. In the context of cryptocurrencies this status means that the transfer has reached the network but has not yet been included in a block or has not gathered a sufficient number of confirmations. On exchanges and in payment services, pending may also refer to a withdrawal awaiting verification or manual approval.
Why a transaction gets stuck in pending status
- A low fee — miners or validators give priority to transfers with a higher processing fee.
- Network overload — during high activity transactions line up in a queue (the mempool).
- Internal checks — the platform may suspend a withdrawal until security procedures are completed.
Usually the pending status is a normal part of a transfer's life cycle, and after some time the transaction is either confirmed or rejected. If it remains stuck for too long, users can speed up the operation by raising the fee or, in some networks, by replacing the transaction. Understanding this status helps you avoid panicking when funds are temporarily unavailable and assess transfer processing times correctly.
