Global financial regulators are showing exceptional optimism toward precious metals. According to a fresh survey by the World Gold Council, in which 74 regulators took part, 45% of central banks plan to buy gold over the next 12 months.
The figure is the highest in the entire history of observations. Consequently, interest in safe-haven assets continues to grow. Analysts at The Kobeissi Letter note that regulators prefer to actively buy gold on price dips.

Record demand from central banks
The share of central banks intending to replenish their gold reserves is the largest since 2020. The current figure of 45% marks the third consecutive year of growth. Thus, we are witnessing a long-term sustained trend rather than a temporary spike in interest.

Such a shift in demand toward emerging economies clearly reflects their desire to substantially diversify their reserves. In addition, it helps significantly reduce dependence on traditional currency assets.
Shared expectations for global reserves
The current positive sentiment encompasses the market as a whole, beyond individual local plans. In total, 89% of central banks expect global gold reserves to grow soon over the next 12 months. This forecast was the second-largest result in the entire history of conducting such surveys.
The combination of record plans and near-universal expectations of growth paints a picture of possible greater sentiment. Notably, regulators view current price levels as an excellent opportunity for an advantageous entry rather than a reason for excessive caution.
