The analytics platform CryptoRank highlighted a telling pattern: a surge of new token listings on centralized exchanges (CEX) came exactly one month before bitcoin (BTC) updated its all-time high. In September 2025 the number of listings grew from 204 to 427 — an increase of 109% in a month.
The very next month bitcoin's price reached a new all-time high. According to analysts, listing activity can be regarded as a metric sensitive to market sentiment.

Why a surge of listings reflects market sentiment
The logic is simple: as the market grows, exchanges more actively add new digital assets to satisfy traders' interest. The stronger the optimism, the more tokens the platforms are ready to bring to trading.
CryptoRank stressed that in 2025 large platforms reacted to the market ahead of time, effectively anticipating the cycle's peak. The surge of listings occurred before bitcoin reached its peak, not after it.
According to experts, this notably distinguishes the current cycle from the previous one. In 2021 the picture was the opposite: the market and the exchanges reacted with a delay rather than ahead of time.
How the current cycle differs from 2021
In the previous cycle bitcoin reached its all-time price high in November 2021, yet listing activity did not peak immediately. The surge happened only a month later — in December 2021, when the number of listings grew by 76% in a month.
The following month exchanges listed 283 new tokens. This became the peak of that cycle, and against the backdrop of already-declining crypto prices. In other words, back then the platforms lagged behind the market, whereas in 2025, on the contrary, they got ahead of it.
CryptoRank stressed that growing listing activity is a proven signal of market overheating. At the same time, in 2024 and 2025 it became especially telling because of the large number of memecoin listings.
